BitOfEverything: Explained
Last Updated: November 28, 2025
Privacy First: We don't collect or share your personal data. We use privacy-focused analytics to understand what content resonates (like "which categories are popular"), but we can never identify individual users or see what you specifically read.
Our Commitment to Your Privacy
At BitOfEverything: Explained, we believe that learning should be private. Your reading history, progress, and preferences belong to you and stay on your device. We collect minimal, anonymous analytics to help us create better content, but we can never identify you or see your personal reading history.
What We Collect (And What We Don't)
❌ What We DON'T Collect
We want to be crystal clear about what we don't do:
- Personal Information: We don't collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.
- Individual Reading History: We can never see which specific concepts YOU read or when YOU read them.
- User Profiles: We don't build profiles about individual users.
- Location Data: We don't access or track your location.
- Device Identifiers: We don't collect persistent device IDs that can identify you.
- Tracking Across Apps: We don't track you across other apps or websites.
✅ What We DO Collect (Anonymously)
We collect anonymous, aggregated analytics to improve content and features:
- Content Popularity: Which categories and concepts are popular overall (not linked to you)
- Category Selections: Which categories users select during onboarding (anonymized)
- Feature Usage: Whether features like "Fun Facts" are being used (aggregated)
- Discovery Patterns: Do users discover content through fun facts vs browsing (aggregated)
- Crash Reports: Anonymous crash logs to fix bugs
Important: This data is completely anonymous and aggregated. We see data like "500 users selected the 'Food & Flavor' category" but we can never see that you specifically selected it.
Data Stored on Your Device
Your learning data is stored locally on your device and also synced through iCloud as part of the app's core functionality:
- Progress Tracking: Which concepts you've read and completed
- Favorites: Concepts you've marked as favorites
- Preferences: Your selected categories, reading settings, and font size
- Reading History: Timeline of your learning journey
This data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework and remains entirely under your control.
iCloud Sync
The app uses iCloud automatically to sync your learning progress across your Apple devices. This syncing is built into the app experience and ensures your data stays consistent everywhere you use BitOfEverything: Explained.
- Data syncing is handled entirely by Apple's iCloud service
- We never have access to your iCloud data at any point
- Refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for how iCloud handles your data
How We Use Anonymous Analytics
Why We Track Anything At All
We're focused on creating content that users actually want to read. Anonymous analytics help us answer questions like:
- "Which categories should we prioritize for new content?"
- "Are fun facts helping users discover concepts?"
- "Which topics resonate most with our audience?"
Without this data, we'd be creating content blindly.
How We Protect Your Privacy
We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service specifically designed to collect insights without identifying users:
- Automatic Anonymization: All data is anonymized before it leaves your device using salted hashing
- No User IDs: We never see device IDs, user IDs, or any identifiers
- No IP Tracking: Your IP address is hashed and cannot be used to identify you
- GDPR/CCPA Compliant: Designed for strict privacy regulations
- No Cookies: No tracking cookies or persistent identifiers
- No Cross-App Tracking: Cannot follow you to other apps or websites
What This Means in Practice
Example of what we can see:
- ✅ "750 users selected 'Food & Flavor' category during onboarding"
- ✅ "35% of concept reads come from fun fact clicks"
- ✅ "'How Things Work' is the most popular category"
What we CANNOT see:
- ❌ "User John Smith selected 'Food & Flavor'"
- ❌ "User on IP 123.456.789 read 'Why Does It Rain' at 3pm"
- ❌ "This specific user reads 5 concepts per week"
The data is aggregated and anonymous by design. Even if we wanted to, we couldn't identify individual users from the data we receive.
Third-Party Services
We use minimal third-party services, all of which are privacy-focused:
TelemetryDeck (Analytics)
Apple Services
- App Store: For app distribution
- iCloud: For syncing your data across your devices
- Privacy Policy: Apple Privacy Policy

- The app contains no advertising, third-party tracking, or external links
- All content is educational and age-appropriate

Data Security
While we don't collect your data, we still take security seriously:
- All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's secure SwiftData framework
- iCloud sync is built in, and data is encrypted by Apple during transmission and storage
- We regularly update the app to address security vulnerabilities

- View Your Data: All your progress and favorites are visible in the app
- Delete Your Data: Uninstalling the app removes all local data
- Export Your Data: Currently not supported, but all data stays on your device
- Opt Out of Analytics: Contact us if you wish to opt out of anonymous analytics

In Simple Terms:
What stays private: Your reading history, progress, and favorites stay on your device. We can never see what YOU specifically read or when.
What we learn (anonymously): We see aggregated trends like "Food & Flavor category is popular" or "Fun facts drive 35% of discoveries" - but we can never connect this to individual users.
Why: This helps us create content people actually want, without invading your privacy.
