Information We Collect

Moleculist stores information locally on your device to help you track your life's molecules:

• Books: Titles, authors, reading progress, personal notes, and ratings
• Movies: Titles, directors, watch dates, personal reviews, and ratings
• Plants: Names, species, care notes, photos, and growth milestones
• Restaurants: Names, locations, visit dates, photos, and personal reviews
• Personal Notes: Any additional notes or tags you add to your tracked items
• Photos: Images you choose to attach to plants and restaurants

How We Use Your Information

Your data is used exclusively to:

• Display your tracked items in the app
• Provide analytics and insights about your habits
• Enable data export for your personal backup
• Allow you to search and organize your collections

Local Storage with iCloud Sync

All your data is stored locally on your device using Core Data. The app uses App Group storage to enable the Share Extension feature (allowing you to add items from Safari and other apps). Additionally, Moleculist automatically syncs your data across your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit service, similar to how Apple Notes works.

Automatic iCloud Sync via CloudKit

Moleculist uses iCloud sync by default:

• Your data is automatically encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account
• Data syncs seamlessly between all devices signed into the same Apple ID
• We never have access to your iCloud data - it's managed entirely by Apple
• You can manage iCloud sync through your device's iCloud settings
• Disabling iCloud for Moleculist will not delete local data on your device

Apple's CloudKit privacy and security policies apply to your synced data. We recommend reviewing Apple's privacy policy for more information about how iCloud data is handled.

Device Permissions

Moleculist requests the following permissions:

• Camera Access: To let you take photos for plant milestones and restaurant visits
• Photo Library Access: To let you attach existing photos to your tracked items
• Clipboard Access: To let you paste content into notes and URL fields when adding items

These permissions are only used for the stated purposes and can be revoked at any time in your device settings.

Data Sharing

Web Enhancement Features

When you add items via URL (like from Goodreads, IMDb, or restaurant websites), Moleculist:

• Fetches publicly available information to auto-fill details
• Downloads cover images and metadata to enhance your collection
• Processes this information locally on your device
• Does not track your browsing or store your web activity

Data Export & Backup

You have complete control over your data:

• Export all your data in JSON format anytime
• Import data from previous exports
• Clear all data from the app settings
• iCloud sync provides automatic backup and cross-device access
• Local data export works regardless of iCloud sync settings
• Manage iCloud sync through your device's iCloud settings

Analytics & Crash Reporting

We do not use any third-party analytics or crash reporting services. If you experience issues, you can contact us directly.

Children's Privacy

Moleculist does not collect any personal information from users, including children under 13. All data is stored locally on the device and never transmitted to external servers. The only way to contact us is through our support email.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal compliance. We will notify users of any material changes through the app or our website.

Data Security

Your data security is enhanced by our privacy-focused approach:

• Local data is protected by your device's built-in security
• iCloud data is encrypted and managed by Apple's secure infrastructure
• App sandboxing prevents unauthorized access to your information
• We don't have servers storing your personal data
• Only you and Apple (for iCloud sync) have access to your data
